What a wild ride.
This is the week my goal race for 2017 is going to kick off. My long sought after Ironman 70.3. Sadly, I wont be doing the race - at least not this year.
We’ve had a few personal matters arise that made participating in the race too costly and too logistically complicated. We are not sure what country we will be living in in the next few months - let alone trying to travel for a race!
Once it was clear I wasn’t going to be able to participate in the race, I lost all my motivation to train. I just stopped cold tofu. Training seemed pointless without a goal so I just went back to trying my hand at Mandarin Chinese and Linear Algebra to pass the time - as you do.
I have managed to keep a very, very light 5 / 10k run going a few times a week, but my overall fitness has dropped quite a bit.
I am not saying I will not run, bike or swim anymore. When I do get out for those sporadic 5 / 10k runs lately, I am finally getting back to having a smile on my face. In fact, I am starting to think about setting a new goal for when we land in our new adventure. I am leaning toward trail running…
Since I’ve set out to do an Ironman, I eventually need to do an Ironman 70.3 or it’ll drive me nuts. Maybe next year.
While I didn’t reach my goal, going along this journey has been wonderful. I ran my first marathon, bested my half marathon and 5k times, swam in the ocean for the first time, did an ocean swim race (!), learned about bike training, learned some bits about swim training, did my first triathlon, ran my first real trail run, hung out with some of the coolest people in the world, and became the fittest I have ever been in my whole life - 20s and teens included.
I can’t wait to see what my next failure is like. Here’s to our next adventure!
