Week 45 - Long wet and Gong

I had a nice mellow week, with a few long workouts.

A bunch of us did the Sydney to Wollongong ride. It's a 90km ride that, after a lot of highway riding, winds up going through some lovely woods and along the east coast of Australia.

The ride is to help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis, and from what I understand it was quite a success. If you're in Sydney next year, I recommend participating in the ride.

Needless to say it wasn't a training ride or a race. We didn't go all out. However, it was a lovely day and 90k is a pretty decent distance. I felt good during and after the ride - I'll be interested to see how I feel after a hard 90k ride. I've done the Wollongong ride before, but 90km is still my furthest distance. I'll have to get on that soon.

Along with matching longest bike distance, Aquaman pushed me a bit over the weekend and we cranked out a 1.2km swim. And it was a proper swim - no backstroke.

The water was much clearer, and a bit calmer. I could see the bottom of the bay most of the time, but I was still a bit freaked out. Less freaked out though - just have to keep at it I think. The back of my throat was burning from all the sea water I still managed to gulp, but as Aquaman says, “The trick, mate, is to not breathe in the water.”

Few long distances this week, but I've been mellow the rest of the time so I am not making any “mad gains”. I am getting ready to get motivated, but it wont be until after a quick nap.
