Week 82 - Golden Cheetah

I haven’t written for quite a while, but I’ve been continuing on behind the scenes. I’d been following my base-training triathlon plan, but I found it to be a bit too much to handle. There were a lot of intervals within the plan (three a week), and I found that I am not ready for that much load. The fatigue was difficult to manage. Stickman had described what he would do if he were training, and I took that to heart.…

Week 77 - Don't Be Soft

I had an unusual race this week - a soft sand 9k. It was a beach run, but not where it’s nice and compact up near the water. No, this race was in the soft sand - hence the name. It was a more difficult than I expected. I was fine for the first 1/3 of the race, but after that the sand really started to get to me. I would yearn for the short patches of packed sand where those in front of me had gone before.…

Week 73 - Listen to Your Heart

I had no idea what my time was until I finished.…

Week 70 - Out of a Hole

I am surprised at how much fitness I lost from just that 10 day break. 10 days doesn’t seem like that long, but I’ve been feeling it the past couple weeks. I’ve just now started feeling normal again. Stickman said it takes about 2 weeks to get back after an extended break, and he seems to have been right on the money. Since my main race isn’t for 8 months or so, my main focus is building my base fitness.…

Week 67 - A century, Banana Man, and Buddha

It has been a while since I’ve posted. A bit has happened. A few weeks back I did my first “century bike ride”. Luckily for me I am going by kilometers so that’s a 100k bike ride instead of 100 miles. A bit of a cheat, but I’ll just roll with it. It’s nice to know what riding that far feels like. I need to get my regular kilometerage around that level soon.…
